Canadian Shield Uplands

Canadian Shield Uplands

The rock of the Canadian Shield is the same rock that underlies all of North America. It's just that it comes to the surface in northern Canada and for that reason the geological province and the rock that forms it is known as the "Shield" or the "Canadian Shield". In Killarney it pokes up as long parallel ridges of white feldspar granite that contrast to the green of the overlying northern hardwoods/coniferous evergreen vegetation.
