Day 2: North Canyon

Side streams entering the Colorado River have cut down through the sedimentary layers in the same way as the waters of the main channel. But because the streams are smaller and have smaller catchment basins the canyons they cut are narrower. These are locally known as "slot canyons".

With exfoliating layers of rock and the pools of water the play of light across the surfaces is visually arresting.
