Day 12: Havasu Creek & Muav section

havasu creek

Havasu Creek is different from the creeks we saw in other slot canyons. It issues out of a soluble limestone and is pretty much saturated with calcium carbonate. This gives it the milky blue color and accounts for the rime like deposits of travertine along the edge of the creek. If you wash your hands in it and allow it to dry it leaves a hard, slick residue that produces an almost tingly feeling.
