Rays and Sharks

yellow stingray

We were lucky enough to see several kinds of sharks and rays on our visit.

Above is the Yellow Stingray, Urolophus jamaicensis. As with other stingrays the tail has a venemous spine near the tip.

To the right is a Lesser Electric Ray, Narcina bancroftii. In this species a modified muscle mass is capable of producing an electrical discharge. While strong enough to stun the small creatures the it feeds on, a human would feel only a mild shock.
