Adult & Juvenile Fish

adult queen angelfish

As if trying to keep track of all the different species of fish weren't complicated enough, the adults and juveniles of some species of fish can be very different from one another, so different that you might easily think they were different species.

The adults (above) of the Queen Angelfish, Holacanthus ciliaris, are pretty easy to recognize since they are strikingly colored and shaped and and fairly different from other species. Now look at the juvenile to the right. The general body shape is somewhat similar to that of the adult, but the coloring is very different.
