Termites are ubiquitous. Many different kinds and when the species present builds a conspicuous mound you can get an idea of just how common they are. There is virtually no down wood in the bush. It seems as if a stick gets eaten up as soon as it hits the ground. Or even before it hits the ground - pipe termites hollow out the center of trunks and branches on the living trees.
