Lucky Bay was discovered in 1801 by Captain Matthew Flinders of the ship HMS Investigator, the first ship known to have circumnavigated Australia. He chanced upon this protected bay when he was rather desperately seaching for shelter from a storm and named it accordingly.
Although it is not a tropical area the sea has that same almost turquoise color. The sand is incredibly white and powder fine. We begin to understand why the coast of southern Australia is considered by some to be the most beautiful in the world.
