We flew into Sydney and, after a couple of days, flew on to Darwin. There we rented a campervan and, for 85 days, slowly rambled south and west. We visited as many National Parks and rural areas as we could. At the end we flew from Perth back to Sydney and then home.
It was the middle of the Australian winter when we reached Darwin, but that only meant that it was dry and the temperatures never got much above 90 degrees. As we moved south, away from the equator, it gradually got cooler. Two months later when we reached the southern coast it was spring, in the 70's, and sometimes rainy.
